Our History

In order to carry out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 16:15) and with the authority of the Home Missions Board, the “Cayce, A.R.P. Mission” was formally begun April 7, 1957 in the office of Mr. W.E. Ford (Old Charleston Highway, Cayce, SC).  Dr. Charles E. Edwards, pastor of the “Mother Church”, Centennial A.R.P. Church, preached the first sermon that day.  The congregation was composed mainly of interested families from Centennial ARP Church, each of whom had agreed to work in the new endeavor.  Mr. Ford consented to let the group use his office as the meeting place until a building could be erected.

On the second Lord’s Day in November, 1957 at the evening worship service, the formal organization as a church took place.  Our name was selected to honor the memory and service of the Edwards family to the cause of Christ through the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

On Sunday, February 6, 2022, the congregation voted to change the name of Edwards Memorial ARP Church to Cayce Presbyterian Church. The name change was approved by Catawba Presbytery on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. We dug deep into our history to guide the future of our ministry together—Cayce Presbyterian Church is very similar to Cayce ARP Mission. The name identifies us with the community that we serve, and we desire to blossom right where the Lord planted us so many years ago.
